The next port was Belize City
The tender was used. When the waters near the mainland are too shallow, the ship stays anchored a km or two, even three away and the passengers are ferried to and fro by small boats called tenders. My tour was cancelled. There was a national holiday in Belize the ship was not aware of,they were selling tours no-one was manning. Some tours took place, but not mine. At 10 I was already walking the streets of the Belize City, wishing I was somewhere, anywhere, but...Drunken or drugged men lying on the pavements, beggars asking with some menace for money.I noticed a clean looking pharmacy and decided to see what it had to offer.A retinol cream for the face and something for my itchy earlobe were chosen and I handed over my debit card. The payment went through but the terminal wold not produce a receipt. I waited for good ten minutes.Neither of the two assistants had the slightest idea what to do,the paper roll clearly visible was stuck and would not budge.I left without the receipt.Outside I bumped into Heinz,a Swiss gentleman also from the ship. He asked where I was going and I replied to see the famous bridge, the only bridge in the world to be raised manually, and as he was about to do the same,we walked together. Then we sat down for a cold drink in The Wet Lizard,Husband Day Care Center,I asked the waitress if they had wi-fi and she said yes, but only after we paid.Hans,a true gentleman, treated me to mineral water and I got my internet connection.Instant.Powerful.Excellent.The best wi-fi I have ever had when travelling.Heinz returned to the ship and I remained sitting with my little Toshiba.
