Karol Mello,Slovakian ex member of the most vicious,ruthless gang

that terrorised Slovakia in the fledgling years of the country's new democracy in the 90's,had taken refuge in Belize.I could never understand why would any country give shelter to a 6 time murderer [and these are the murders he is accused of committing himself,he had allegedly taken part in many other gangland killings] and have this vicious monster live amongst its people.When Columbus docked in the Belize City on 20th November I knew why.Poverty,dirt,neglect,overpowering stench, men lying on the pavements either in drunken stupor or drugged at 10 in the morning.Mr Mello's ill gotten fortune must have been a godsend to the country,he must have paid heavily for the privilege of not being extradited to Slovakia.I have no doubt his living quaters are not those of an average Belizian.And there is no life better than that on money he never lifted a finger to earn other than take a gun or an axe and take a life of another human being.
