Sri Lanka has appealed to the International Monetary Fund

to revive a $ 1.5-billion  bailout suspended after more than seven weeks  of political upheaval in the country.The crises greatly alarmed the IMF,it suspended the bailout programme - that began in 2016 - just as it was about to disburse another instalment.
I will never understand why poor countries  that so heavily rely on foreign aid,cannot live in harmony and work to make their country more prosperous and self-reliant.
But as long as they know that "rich" foreigners will help,this will never happen.

That said,having re-read the above on 2 march 2021, I hope with all my heart Sri Lanka got the money and is spending it wisely.

I fell in love with the country and its people who retain dignity and kindness in poverty I had not seen before.
