02/08/2016, Am I killing the pigeons with kindness?

My nephew is of the opinion that I am,as they waddle around the garden like ducks and their wings can barely lift them up,making them an easy target for a big black cat that is now and then lurking about. But if I left less food in the feeding trough the pigeons would eat it all and nothing would remain for the smaller birds and the squirrels. There is a baby squirrel that comes for dinner now and then,the tiniest I have ever seen in my garden. I haven't seen the parents and fear it may be an orphan. I want to give it a chance to survive alone. After my lovely visitors left last Friday I cleared out the fridge and a lot of food including cheese,salads,blackberries and even chicken noodle soup went into the trough [not at the same time,of course]. Everything has been consumed to the last morsel.
