Much ado about nothing.
Call me a sceptic ,but the whole affair was just a way to make more money for Cunard. On 25th May the QV sailed into Liverpool. There was to be a tender ferrying us from the ship to shore.Never on any ship have I experienced anything as badly organized and executed. Apparently the tender booked to do the job, was not fit to attach itself to the QV.This I personally do not believe, I think the barge was parading other people, who had already bought tickets for trips on the river Mersey. This is exactly what it was doing all afternoon, as could be clearly seen.So at 4 it was finally miraculously attached, and we were ready to crowd into the cold, smelly, contraction, that probably dates from the time of the two legged Queen Victoria {there was a loud speaker announcement, that the vessel was award winning. What it won, we were never told .What it should have won, was the title of the biggest dump that had ever sailed on the river Mersey. The port was a shock.Dirty.The overpowering stench of burnt food.Bitterly cold, I turned to go back to the warmth of the ship, but I just missed the tender. I was told in half an hour it will return. It never did, not for the Cunard passengers. It came back to take the day trippers for rides on the river again. So I waited, soon to be joined by several other Cunarders, slowly there were tens, then hundreds more. After almost two hours a barge was sent for us.I take back all I said about the contraption that brought us ashore. It at least looked the part. What came to take us back, must be seen to be believed. And I never want to see it ever again.Nor do I want to think about the nightmare the whole experience was. How, what had promised to be so wonderful, could have gone so wrong? That a ship like the QV can make such an utterly unacceptable mess,is beyond belief. And even more disgraceful is, that not a word of apology from any-one.By admitting the service provided for us and paid for by us ,was utterly disgraceful, and were they afraid of possible compensation claims? So here I am sitting in the most comfortable chair in one of the loveliest libraries afloat. The sea is peaceful, the sun occasionally breaks through the light clouds. The food on this trip can in no way compare with that of Oceana, at times being quite mediocre, especially the dessert section,it is very rarely to my liking. In fact I can count on the fingers of one hand the the cakes I had wanted to eat, leaving two fingers free to stick up to the pastry maker. YES, I do judge the success of any cruise by the quality of the food.I like things simple, made from the best ingredients. No fancy footwork, no sauces I do not know the name of.Having had time to reflect on the cruises past and remember the best, the mediocre and the worst, I can say with the clear conscience of a newborn baby, that the food on Oceana was the best I have ever had at sea and I cannot wait to go back. And talking about a new born baby. There has been a tiny 49 com long addition to my family, weighing 2,29kg,called Boris. He arrived after 8 years of being longed for.The proud father is my nephew, another Boris.Today I bought a clogau gold heart locket for the mother of the baby, whom I have grown to love as I love my nephew. The baby and the mother are healthy and well looked after.I cant wait to see them both in June.
